Umm… What is SEO for Blogging?
At it’s core, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is supposed to do exactly what it says in it’s title… optimize your blog posts for search engines. But what does this really mean?
Basically, it’s a way to organize each or your blog posts so that they can be found by other people more easily.
Think of search engines, such as Google, being like the index of a big reference book.
The index in the very back of a book is basically a list of words and phrases pointing the reader to which page they can find more information about that topic.
So imagine that all the blog posts, ever written by anyone, are listed in this index by blog title. It could be difficult to find exactly what you are searching for without a lot of page flipping unless you’re very specific.
Now imagine the author of this book, for example Google, chose to highlight the titles of blog posts that it thinks are the most useful for readers, and bring those titles to the front of each section. This would help readers find the information they need a lot faster.
This is essentially what search engines are doing with the order in which it shows results. Whether the blog post or website pulls up on page 1, 2, 3 etc. And the how far at the top of the page the blog post is listed organically (without paying for ad placement.)
Knowing this, it’s important to do all you can to improve each blog post so that search engines will see them as important, and want to pull your post to the top of their results on the first page. This of course is the goal, and it can take a bit of time to get there as you move through the ranks, but the SEO tips for blogging found below, and these SEO Secret Tips (sshhh!), certainly can help.
